Privacy policy

This page explains what prawegko.dev does with data. It is short because the site does very little: it is a static personal site — no accounts, no e-commerce, no advertising, and no database behind it.

In short

  • I use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read. It sets first-party cookies and reports are processed by Google.
  • Your dark/light theme choice is saved in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device.
  • There are no ads and no advertising cookies on this site.
  • No personal information is sold, rented, or shared for marketing.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google'sopt-out browser add-on.

Who runs this site

prawegko.dev is the personal site of Praweg Koirala, an individual. It is a portfolio and blog — it is not a company website, there are no user accounts, and nothing is bought or sold here.

Analytics

I use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-D8R5CVHEJC) to understand how the site is used, so I know which writing and projects are worth keeping up. It collects:

  • approximate location (derived from your IP address);
  • the device, operating system, and browser you are using;
  • the pages you view and how long you spend on them;
  • how you arrived — the search, link, or site that referred you;
  • basic session information, such as whether a visitor is new or returning.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies on prawegko.dev to tell one visit from another. The measurements are recorded and processed byGoogle, not by me: I only ever see aggregated reports in the Google Analytics interface, and those reports do not show me your IP address or anything that identifies you by name.

The analytics script is loaded from Google's servers (googletagmanager.com), so Google receives your request when it loads. SeeGoogle's privacy policyandhow Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Cookies and local storage

This site itself does not set cookies. Two things are stored on your device:

  • Theme preference. If you switch between dark and light mode, your choice is saved in your browser's localStorage under the keytheme. It stays on your device, is never sent to me, and is not shared with anyone.
  • Analytics cookies. The Google Analytics cookies described above are the only cookies this site causes to be set.

No advertising

There are no ads on this site and no advertising or cross-site profiling cookies. No ad networks, retargeting pixels, or social media trackers are embedded here. I do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Contact messages

The contact page has a form. When it is submitted, the name, email address, and message you type are sent toWeb3Forms, a third-party form service that delivers the message to my email inbox. Their privacy practices govern that transfer. Nothing from the form is stored on this site — it is a static site with no database — and I use what you send only to reply to you. You can also reach me directly by email atprawegko@gmail.com.

Hosting

The site is served as static files from Amazon S3 through Amazon CloudFront. Like any web host, that infrastructure receives the request your browser makes — including your IP address, the file requested, and your browser's user-agent string — in order to deliver the page and protect the service from abuse.

Your choices

  • Opt out of analytics. Google'sAnalytics opt-out browser add-onstops Google Analytics from measuring your visits on this and other sites.
  • Block the script. A content blocker, or blockinggoogletagmanager.com, prevents the analytics script from loading at all. The site works exactly the same either way.
  • Clear what's stored. Removing prawegko.dev from your browser's site data clears both the theme preference and any analytics cookies.
  • Ask me something. If you want to know what analytics data exists that relates to a visit you made, or want a message you sent deleted, email me and I will deal with it.

Third-party links

Pages here link out to other services — for example GitHub, LinkedIn, and the projects described on the site. Once you follow one of those links, their privacy policies apply, not this one.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters — a new analytics or third-party service, for instance — I will update this page and the effective date above at the same time.
